TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM ( TPMS) As on November 2011, all new vehicles with a gross weight < 4536 kgs registered in European Community will mandatorily have to be equipped with a TPMS ( Tire Pressure Monitoring System). In USA, this policy does exist since 2007 already. The main advantages of TPMS Decrease in fuel consumption : underinflation of tires cause an increase of 5% to 10% of fuel consumption. In the U.S., the State Dpt of Transportation estimates that underinflated tires cost 7.5 billion liters of fuel a year! Extended Lifespan of tires: most tires experiencing a premature end were either used underinflated or both of the same axle (front or rear) had different inflation pressures. The lifespan of a properly inflated tire is 25% higher than average. Enhanced security: a correctly inflated tire reduces stopping distances and accident risk. Road Safety in France estimated that 9% of accidents are caused by a defective tire. The German DEKRA even says that 41% of accidents involving injuries or deaths are due to tire problems. Environmentally friendly: the European Union believes that the under-inflated tires can result in wasted 20 million liters of fuel, the emission of more than 2 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, and the premature disposal of 200 million tires every year!
